Lauren Forti is a Rhode Island based illustrator. Originally a 300 year old colonial witch, Forti has translated her love for spells and charms to acrylic gouache painting and bookbinding. Her work brings fairy tale and folk themes to life with feminine figures in vibrant color.
Lauren researched stories about women who were suffering during Colonial-1920s masculine excess. Not as victims, but to explore how they dealt with the alienation, loss, and sentimentality that came as the cost. Hannah Robinson’s story was the first that stuck out to her while researching and the tower, though reconstructed, still stands as a RI landmark today.
